Another trip to the University of Delaware junk pile yielded many pieces of old scientific equipment. These machines are so inspiring with the knobs, dials and meters. My intention was to turn them into machines that measure pollution, like air quality and cell phone radiation, but the more I look at them I realized that I simply enjoy looking at them and making up stories about what they do. So in the end this piece is a series of life-size photographs of these mysterious machines taken against the wood paneling in my studio. When exhibited, the labels of the pieces are make-believe stories about their functionality such as “Fisher PH Meter Converted to Outer Space EMF Detector”.
